DISCLAIMER: While we represent people in search for truth andjustice, we didn't intend to cause damage to Total Pop Star, their supporters, management and staffs. What we just did was to investigate things that we believe causes harm to the general public. We based our investigation on logical research and evidences which mostly were already posted on the web. However some requires evidences which include to a limited extent, private/ confidential evidences such as email messages and materials we received throughout the duration of this investigation. We still have those materials kept in our safe archive up to now. While we have the right to investigate, we doesn'thave the power to enforce the law. It seems the Total Pop Star site was down for weeks now, and for some reason we would like to clarify that we had nothing to do with it. This site just serves as a database for those who would like to know about the issues concerning this web based competition, FOR THE AWARENESS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC. If the materials in this site were being used by a third party for judicial proceeding, then that is beyond our knowledge and jurisdiction since we have no way to trace who are copying and using these information (only IP addresses, location and system browser were logged in our database during each visits, not the user identity). If a third party would do that on legal purpose, then we assume that their use conforms with Fair Use, and where other laws such as Privacy Law were overruled by any legal purpose. Please note that we are just after the truth, and the truth must prevail! If you had any information on recent updateson Total Pop Star or any other issues concerning its domain such as the "Desist and Refrain Order" issued to ANDREW VAN SLEE, TPS Executive Producer and Judge, please let us know. Thank you very much!
| NEWS FLASH!!! Total Pop Star has announced that Season 2 has been extended to October 25, 2009! On December 13, 2008, Barely 21days to go before Season 2 ends, Total Pop Star announced that Season 2 has been extended to October 25 2009! With no previous notice to their contestants and current updates, is TPS hiding something? Or does it give them leeway to straighten out the issues?

YouTube comment, TOTAL POP STAR.COM (video)"I'm posting these as a reminder that a former avid TPS fanand supporter doesn't like the way Season 1 ended. It's OK to announce the winner. But I just couldn't forget the griefs of others who emailed me: those who have promoted themselves painstakingly through the malls handing out their TPS brochures, making thru expensive text votes, and paying studios to record their songs, asking them to be played on the radio. Those finalists with votes taken away from them, never to be seen again." shown on TV while Total Pop Star was just an Internet based competition. American Idol got lot's of sponsors and limit themselves only to U.S. contenders, while TPS claims to be worldwide (real ambitious, huh?). ... And Can you please tell me what happened to the Season 1winner and the other Top 5. I haven't heard from them since the Season 1 winner announcement. has been doing their assignment giving the best deal on their winners (Winners and non-winners: Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry. etc.) That's the way they market their own winner. As for Total Pop Star, I've been doing web searches for updates on Danica. I couldn't find any except for the Brightcove video of the winner announcement. I couldn't find anything on the album on the works, and anything about Destinee, Shanta, and others. Yes we have them on YouTube, but that ain't enough. MANNYDEGUZMANARTIST |
Total Pop Star, is it legal?
TOTAL POP STAR, one of the largest online singing competition might be in hotwater if proven to be violating certain U.S. and Interstate Laws.
This surfaced after it was discovered that Total Pop Star has not been licensed, neitherregistered at Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI), The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and SESAC.
ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC's logo has been embedded at the bottom of every TotalPop Star page with this inscription: "This competition maintains current public performance licenses from the following agencies: BMI, ASCAP & SESAC"
ASCAP, SESAC, and BMI are regulating bodies to protect the rights of performers, composers and authors as mandated in the Performing Rights and Performance Rights under the provision of the U.S Copyright Law.
Following the May 30th event which catapulted some of the Season One finalists votes back to zero due tosome alleged glitch in the voting system, one curious contestant who refuses to be named searched Total Pop Star's licenses through the web, and not a single registration was found. Furthermore, it was found that Mr. Andrew Van Slee, Total Pop Star Executive Producer and his Independent Filmakers Alliance (IFAdotCOM LLC) which maintains the Total Pop Star site continues to operate despite being served with an AMMENDED DESIST AND REFRAIN ORDER (for the sale of unqualified non-exempt securities in violation of Corporations Code Section 25110 of the California Corporations Code). Subconsequently, Mr. Van Slee was facing some more charges for violating the IOWA Code 502.201 or the California Securities Law in another case of Desist and Refrain Order issued to him and his Extraordinary Media Group and Peroxide Pictures, LLC. Peroxide Films was created to produce the movie "Totally Blonde" which continues to be on sale.
Some Total Pop Star supporters and contestants has expressed their concerns through email. HoweverISSUES ONLINE still haven't heard of any reactions from TPS Management and Administration to clear themselves up with this issue as of press-time.
| experienced Actor | That was good of you to let newcomers know of your experience. Most people that get scammed are too embarassed to admit it. I hope you report this in writing to the BC Film Commission, as well as the Union of BC Performers. Include all names of people concerned. It is helpful to keep close tabs on jerks like this. I've been around for a long time and have seen Scammers come and go. There was a real jerk named AndrewVan Slee that ripped people off for years. We called him Van Sleaze as he was always hitting on pretty girls, even in front of his wife. He was one of the major reasons that legislation was brought in to stop this type of abuse. I hope this hasn't deterred you because a Film career can be very rewarding, and there are a lot of terrific people in the industry. Don't let them get away with it. Reposted from:

We find some issues in Total Pop Star licenses with BMI, ASCAP, and SESAC, along with someirregularities and discrepancies with TPS rules which the judges and administrators of the site allegedly didn't follow themselves. These are as follows:
Before we begin examining these licenses, be aware of the following why TOTAL
POP STAR must obtain the approriate licenses from BMI, ASCAP and SESAC for
the protection of each contestants.
Performing rightsFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the United States, broadcasters can pay for their use of music in one of two ways: they can obtain permission/ license directly from the music’s copyright owner (usually the publisher), or they can obtain a license from ASCAP and BMI to use all of the music in their repertories. ASCAP and BMI along with the much smaller SESAC are the three performing rights societies in the U.S. and once they receive payment from the broadcasters they are responsible for compensating the music authors and publisher. Nearly every professional composer, songwriter, lyricist and publisher is a member of a performing rights society and the income received from them is a major source of their income.
Performing rights are the right to perform music in public. It is part of copyright law and demands payment to the music’s composer/lyricist and publisher (with the royalties generally split 50/50 between the two) when a business uses music in a public performance. Examples of public performances are broadcast and cable television, radio, concerts, nightclubs, restaurants etc. When music is performed by a business they must obtain a license to use that music and compensate the author (composer and lyricist) and publisher.
Performers' rightsFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As a performer, every individual has certain rights. These basic rights include the right to obtain some remuneration for ones work, and to obtain information about how you (including your appearance) and other talents (acting, singing or other) may have been used in the final product. Whilst one has individual performing rights, if you are asked by a producer or director to perform on their behalf, you (as a performer) should:
- ensure you have a contract which clearly describes what benefit you will derive (before you begin your performance)
- ensure that you're dealing with the correct party (watch for misrepresentations)
- keep the information channels open (be pro-active)
Total Pop Star claims that they currently hold licenses under BMI, ASCAP and SESAC. These licenses holds protection for artists, composers and publishers. Without these licenses, anybody signed up with a contract, might be exploited by any entities, or could face Copyright Infringement or Performing Rights violation.
This were written at the TPS Homepage: "This competition maintains current public performance licenses from the following agencies: BMI, ASCAP & SESAC"
Yet, doing our own research, here's what we found:
1.a. SESAC (Performing Rights Organization). Searching through the listings of registered members at SESAC.COM, we couldn't find anything about TOTAL POP STAR. (Click SEARCH at the SESAC guide below and key in "total pop star". See if you can find anything about TOTAL POP STAR. We couldn't even find anything about Independent Filmmakers Alliance <IFAdotCom LLC>).
Contenders uploading your cover demos at Total Pop Star, beware: You might not be well protected with your performing rights, and you might be endangered with copyright infringement claims by original songwriters and copyright owners. Unless Total Pop Star applies for a valid license with SESAC, you could never be sure of your PERFORMING RIGHTS protection!
Do your share, search for "Total Pop Star" at SESAC guide below.

I have a valid Total Pop Star account. I don't understand why it get deleted. Does it has something to with my previous comments regarding the TPS finals. I hope they are not getting it personal. I only signed up to support and promote my choice of contestants. I've been uploading promotional videos for them which i edited myself, with their songs remixed and enhanced in my home studio.
